ART WE LIKE THIS WEEK: Christian Faur’s ”Crayon Art”’

How fantastic is this? The combination of so many different colours of crayon placed together to trick the human eye, making your brain put an image together that may not actually be there….do we really see what the artist intends us to see?

Can improv be a form of assessment for students in a school?  I can see the assignment now: choose an issue that matters to you, create a performance to teach your peers about it, execute the performance.  Am I crazy?

Holocaust education has no relevance to the students you’ll be teaching.
I was told this by a (now former) assistant principal when I got to my school. After picking my jaw up off the floor of her office, I laid out the reasons why teaching the Holocaust is so very important (I used Night and The Pianist and Hotel Rwanda, as well as resources from the National Holocaust Museum, in my unit of study), but to no avail. If they get to it in history class, they’ll learn about it. It still makes me shake my head in disbelief all these years later. In what world is it not relevant? (via tomesawayfromhome)

Only in schools have we created the illusion that life is broken down into distinct units.  Life belongs separated from itself, closed up in little drawers.  May that illusion go the way of the Dewey decimal system!
